Description:
West Hants isn’t so much an out and out gym, its more of a tennis club but with a decent sized gym and added extras it is well worth a review.
Now if Fitspace was more of an 18 to 30’s gym, West Hants is definitely the other end of the market. One of the rules of West Hants is that you have to be a millionaire or drive a Mercedes and this attitude definitely reflects in the atmosphere of the place. You are more likely to sell tea to the Chinese than get a conversation out of the other members and on the off chance that you do they look down on you as if you don’t deserve to be there! This can’t be said of the receptionists who are always there to greet you with a smile and laugh at your terrible jokes. Being attractive as they are is also a massive bonus and that certainly gets the adrenaline pumping!
Now onto the gym which is situated all on one floor. Although not very large it is more than adequate as most members rarely venture up there for a workout thus meaning it is never really busy. There are more than enough CV machines which are relatively new however intertwined with them are older machines which are always in need of repair. There is 1 of every resistance machine which are nearly always free and are also brand new. The only machine that can be difficult to get on is the pec deck and that is mainly because of 1 gym instructor who seems to spend his whole day on there which can be slightly annoying. (Note to said instructor if he is reading- get off the machine and do your pissing job!) The downside is definitely the free weights with only a few different sized dumbells to use.
The extras at West Hants however are what make this place. There are around 30 tennis courts which are grass, clay, and acrylic and indoors which are all immaculately kept however you have to subscribe to the gold or silver membership to be able to use them. The indoor courts are very hard to book though as they are used a lot and you have to book about 2 weeks in advance to get one. As well as tennis there are also 3 squash courts which are rarely in use. West Hants also offers a decent sized swimming pool which is used as well for swimming lessons for the younger and older clientele. Situated next to the pool are a steam room and a sauna which are of a good size. Be warned however that most members of West Hants won’t show any sauna or steam room etiquette and will regularly walk in and increase or decrease the temperature even if you were in there first. To deal with this a swift reply of wanker will leave them confused and they will usually walk out to avoid further confrontation. There are also plenty of classes to join from aerobics to judo.
The major sticking point of West Hants is the price. A gym and pool only membership can cost upwards of £45 a month plus the £110 joining fee however that can be negotiated. The serious money however is the silver and gold membership which costs around £100 per month plus £300 joining fee. As you can see it is rather pricey.
Overall it is a decent gym but the atmosphere is terrible as well as the price. A thumbs down I am afraid.
